Teetotallers twice as likely to end up in nursing homes

Moderate drinkers face “lesser risk of dementia, which of course gets you into a nursing home," reports researcher Prof McCallum.  Fewer drinkers died or were hospitalized during the course of the study, as drinking also fends off cardiovascular disease.  Smoking is another way to avoid Sunnyville Acres, adds McCallum, explaining, “It kills most people before they get to that age."
